On 25 January 1983, St. John Paul II issued the Apostolic Constitution "Sacrae Disciplinae Leges" for the promulgation of the new "Code of Canon Law", which entered into effect on 27 November 1983.

The Holy See Press Office published the Apostolic Letter that Pope Francis signed on 26 April 2022 in the form of Motu Propriowhose, with the title "Recognitum librum VI" and whereby canon 695 §1 of the Code of Canon Law is modified.
