Annual Appreciation Dinner of Diocesan Schools for the 2024/2025 Academic Year

To express profound gratitude for the unwavering dedication and selfless service of educational leaders from the nine Diocesan Schools throughout the 2024/2025 academic year, the Diocesan Catholic Education Commission (C.D.E.C) hosted its Annual Appreciation Dinner on 17 July 2025 at Restaurante Beautiful World in the Centro Comercial Jardim da Cidade.

The distinguished gathering was presided over by the Most Reverend Bishop Stephen Lee Bun-Sang and attended by prominent guests, including Department Deputy Director Li Yongxian and Division Head Zhang Chuanwei from the Department of Education and Youth Work of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, as well as Acting Director Leong I On of the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ). School supervisors, principals, senior and middle management personnel, and school managing committee members from across the Diocesan Schools came together to reflect on the year's achievements, share insights, and foster mutual encouragement for the educational journey ahead.

In his address, Acting Director Leong I On commended the Diocese as a steadfast and invaluable partner of the Bureau, highlighting how numerous Diocesan Schools have demonstrated exceptional co-operation and support in critical initiatives, particularly in school admissions and inclusive education that have significantly benefited students and families facing various challenges. He welcomed continued dialogue and suggestions for enhancing collaborative efforts. Director Leong also recognised the strategic establishment of English sections in select Diocesan Schools, which provide students with internationally-oriented curricula while facilitating meaningful educational exchanges between local educators and their counterparts from sister schools in mainland China. He expressed enthusiasm for deepening this collaborative partnership in advancing educational excellence.

A highlight of the evening featured Principal Dr. Ao Chi Kun sharing his reflections on his inaugural year leading Escola de Santa Madalena. Dr. Ao extended heartfelt appreciation to DSEDJ and the Liaison Office for their invaluable guidance, and to his eight fellow Diocesan Principals whose generous mentorship and experience-sharing ensured he never felt isolated in his new role. Transitioning from his background in university and secondary education, this marked his first leadership experience in managing a primary school with kindergarten facilities that provides comprehensive inclusive education services. After a full year of hands-on practice and thoughtful adaptation, he expressed confidence in mastering the operational rhythms of his school. Dr. Ao also acknowledged the astute guidance of Supervisor Ms Stella Kou In-Seong, the steadfast support of his two vice-principals, and Bishop Stephen Lee's inspirational leadership and recognition, all of which have enabled him to find deep fulfillment in serving young learners, making his tenure both professionally rewarding and personally enriching.

The evening concluded with a special recognition ceremony in which the Most Reverend Bishop, representing the Diocese, presented a commemorative statue of the Holy Family to Ms Nair Cardoso, the departing Director of St Joseph International Nursery (C.I.S.J.), who will soon be relocating from Macau. This presentation honoured her exceptional contributions and dedicated service to the nursery over the past five years. The Diocese extended its warmest wishes to Ms Cardoso for continued happiness and harmony in her family life abroad.
