Diocesan Tidings of Christmas - Voices Raised, Hearts in Praise

The annual “Cor ad Cor Christmas Carol 2025” organised by the Diocesan Catholic Education Commission (C.D.E.C.) was held on 24 December 2025 (Christmas Eve) from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Senado Square (Largo do Senado).

Presented in the form of a festive showcase, the event brought together a rich variety of artistic expressions. In addition to choral singing, dance, drama and wind ensemble performances, this year’s programme also incorporated martial arts and street dance elements. Members of the public and visitors gathered as the community prepared to welcome the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ, reflecting on the true meaning of Christmas through the shared language of sacred music, culture and the performing arts, and preparing their hearts for the Midnight Mass later that night.

The event was a joint effort of multiple Catholic schools, Parishes and community groups, who came together in response to the Church’s long-standing tradition of proclaiming the Good News. The programme centred on themes such as the angelic announcement of glad tidings, the journey to Bethlehem, the value of human life, and the significance of Christmas itself. Through diverse artistic forms, the performances invited audiences to rediscover, amid the festive atmosphere, the peace and hope brought by the coming of the Saviour.

Following an address by The Most Reverend Bishop D. Stephen Lee Bun-Sang, the performances commenced in sequence. Among them, students from the Chinese Section of Colégio de Santa Rosa de Lima presented a dance depicting the angel’s proclamation of good news; children from the Kindergarten of Escola São Paulo conveyed the joy of Christmas through song and dance; and Escola de Santa Teresa do Menino Jesus presented the musical ”Life is Precious”, combining drama and action songs to express the dignity of life and the love of God.

In addition, a wind ensemble from the English Section of Colégio de Santa Rosa de Lima offered Christmas music; Escola Dom João Paulino presented a drama elucidating the core meaning of Christmas; and representatives of St. Francis Xavier Parish (Mong Há) performed the hymn The Road to Bethlehem, leading the audience in contemplation of the Holy Family’s journey to welcome the Saviour. Students from the Fifth School Colégio Diocesano de São José (C.D.S.J.5), together with the choir The Loved Flock from the Parish of St. Joseph the Worker and the Cathedral Schola of Macau, offered Chinese and English carols in praise of the Lord’s grace and in joyful proclamation of the Saviour’s coming. The programme also featured a martial arts performance by the Martial Arts Youth Academy, together with a street dance presentation by Escola de Santa Madalena, jointly expressing the vibrancy of the Christmas season. These performances symbolised the offering of one’s whole being to God and highlighted the harmony between faith and culture.

Over two hundred performers took part in the event. With dedicated preparation, each participating group bore witness through song and the performing arts, allowing faith to step beyond the church walls and into the heart of the city, and sharing with the wider public the peace, joy and hope embodied in Christmas. The event attracted many passers-by and visitors, creating an atmosphere that was both warm and reverent.

In addition, student volunteers distributed small Christmas gifts to members of the public during the event, offering festive blessings and gently reminding all that Christmas is not merely a celebration, but a sacred season in which the Church commemorates the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ, inviting all on Christmas Eve to prepare their hearts to welcome the Lord.
