Inspired by the biblical 'Emmaus Event' (Luke 24:13-35), the Emmaus Pedagogy emphasises accompanying students on their journey of faith, integrating Christian stories with students' personal life experiences. Through dialogic teaching and reflective practice, this method aims to foster deep spiritual growth. The workshops provided comprehensive theoretical introductions, analyses of demonstration lesson videos, and various interactive activities, equipping participants with the essential skills of the Emmaus Pedagogy.
The primary-school-focused workshop held on the first day, 20 March, was enthusiastically attended by 28 teachers from 9 schools who actively engaged in discussions and practical exercises, sharing insights on integrating this pedagogy effectively into their teaching.
On the following day, the secondary-school-focused session also saw active participation, as the 18 participating teachers from 7 different schools explored, through in-depth discussions and simulated teaching sessions, optimal applications of this pedagogy in religious education for adolescents.
Participating teachers expressed that the workshop was highly beneficial, enhancing their capability to engage students spiritually and making religious and moral education more impactful. The organisers pledged to continue offering similar training events, promoting interactive and practical teaching approaches, and contributing further to the development of Catholic education locally.
