Youth Council Delegation Visits Hong Kong to Foster Youth Development Collaboration

In a bid to enhance the exchange of youth development experiences between Macao and Hong Kong, and to bolster connections and interactions between these regions, Mr. Kong Chi Meng, Director of the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) and Vice Chairman of the Youth Council, led a delegation from the Council on a visit to the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau (HYAB) and the Labour Department in Hong Kong for a discussion on the 19th of January, 2024. The visit also included tours of facilities like the “Youth Employment Start” (Y.E.S.) office, Youth Square, and others.

The delegation commenced their visit by meeting Mr. Clarence Leung Wang-Ching (BBS, JP), the Under Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, and Mr. Kenneth Leung Yuk-Wai (JP), Vice-Chairman of the Youth Development Commission (YDC). They engaged in dialogues focused on youth policy concepts and the implementation of corresponding measures by both governments, with a particular emphasis on patriotic education, support for youth development in education, employment, business startups, home ownership, and the operational mechanisms of youth advisory bodies. Subsequently, discussions with Ms. May Chan Wing-Shiu (JP), the Commissioner for Labour, were held, centering on the efforts of both governments in facilitating youth employment and their integration into the Bay Area's development. The delegation's visit to the Y.E.S. office provided insights into Hong Kong's comprehensive one-stop services for youth employment, training, and self-employment support. The tour of Youth Square offered a closer look at the operational model of Hong Kong's first integrated center dedicated to youth development.

During the exchange, Mr. Kong highlighted Macao's initiatives in education and youth development, noting the cultural and historical commonalities between Hong Kong and Macao. He expressed hope that the visit would lay a groundwork for future exchanges and collaborations between the governments and youth organizations of the two regions. The delegation members acknowledged that the visit had enriched their understanding of Hong Kong's recent advancements in youth affairs and had opened avenues for mutual inspiration and idea exchange between the youth advisory bodies of both places.
