On May 14, 2024, the Diocesan Catholic Education Commission (C.D.E.C.) of Macao hosted a delegation of 13 representatives from the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong for the "Diocesan Education Exchange Day." This event was designed to enhance co-operation and understanding between the two Dioceses in educational endeavours. The delegates from Hong Kong were introduced to Macao's distinctive educational settings and system through visits and in-depth discussions, promoting a fruitful exchange of best practices in educational management, development of pastoral work, and training for school supervisors and management committees.
At the commencement of the event, C.D.E.C. arranged a visit to the Chinese Section of Santa Rosa da Lima, a Diocesan School steeped in profound historical significance. During the visit, the delegates were impressed by the school's longstanding educational tradition and the school chapel's cultural heritage, exemplified by the remarkably long stone staircase, demonstrating the unique value and far-reaching influence of Catholic education in shaping students.
Subsequently, the Hong Kong delegation visited the Cathedral of Macao to gain insights into the history and culture of the Diocese of Macao. This visit not only enabled the delegates to experience Macao's religious heritage but also fostered a more comprehensive understanding of local Catholic education and its traditions, an integral aspect of educational exchange.
Following the visit, the delegation from Hong Kong received a warm welcome from the Most Reverend Bishop of the Diocese of Macao, D. Stephen Lee Bun-Sang, and enjoyed a Macanese lunch with members of the C.D.E.C. This informal gathering provided an opportune setting for representatives of the two Dioceses to share and discuss educational matters in a relaxed atmosphere.
