In celebrattion of the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Guangdong Han Opera Heritage Research Institute, a national intangible cultural heritage protection base established for more than 50 years, is coming to Macao to stage a national tour performance titled "Happiness in Capital of Hakka in the World" on 14 October at 3:00 p.m. The Institute has been invited to perform in France, Australia, Mexico, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and Taiwan for many times and the performances have all been well received!

This collaboration is realised by the Meizhou Municipal Government and is jointly organised by the Guangdong Han Opera Heritage Research Institute with the University of Saint Joseph and the Associação dos Conterrâneos de Karying de Macau. The performance venue is the Auditório Centenário de Fátima in the Ilha Verde Campus of the University of Saint Joseph, a western-style auditorium to bring a brand-new audio-visual enjoyment of the Chinese Opera to the audience.

The Guangdong Han Opera is one of the three major opera genres in Guangdong Province, with a history of more than 300 years. It features "Pihuang qiang" (a type of vocal tone from Cantonese Operas) in Zhongzhou dialect and rhymes. The main roles are categorised into seven types: Sheng (male lead), Dan (female lead), Chou (clown), Gong (elderly man), Po (elderly woman), and Jing (painted faces) - which includes Hongjing (red painted face) and Wujing (black painted face). It is a national intangible cultural heritage and is also a major opera for the Hakka people. It has been honoured once by the respected Prime Minister Zhou Enlai as the "Peony of the South."
