Appointment Ceremony of the Third-Term Commission Members and
the First-Term Members for the Advisory Group on Educational Affairs of Macao
The Diocesan Commission for Catholic Education that was first established in 2016 has entered its third term on the 1st of May 2022, for this, a banquet that serves as the "Appointment Ceremony of the Third-Term Commission Members” as well as the “Appointment Ceremony of the First-Term Members for the Advisory Group on Educational Affairs of Macao” was arranged at the Hotel Metrópole on the 4th of May in the evening, bringing together the Commission Members of the new term with the members of the newly formed Advisory Group on Education in Macau. The banquet was also attended by honourable guests including Father João Evangelista Lau Him-sang, Procurator of the Catholic Diocese of Macau; Mr. Vong Pio, Chairperson of the Macao Catholic Schools Association; and Dr. Samuel Kio Su-Iong, President of the Associação Unida das Escolas Católicas da Diocese de Macau.
In his speech, the President of the Commission Reverend Bishop Stephen Lee Bun-Sang thanked both members of the third-term Commission and the Advisory Group for their acceptance of the invitation to contribute to the educational affairs of the Catholic Diocese of Macau. In addition to welcoming two new members to the Commissions, Dr. Rochelle Ge and Dr. Au Chi Kun, the Reverend Bishop also revealed to the ten Principal members and the two legal advisors of the Advisory Group that the purpose of the Group was to widely gather opinions and suggestions from frontline leaders of Catholic schools, so as to further understand the development needs in the local education sector and views on concerning policies. At the end of the speech, the Reverend Bishop reminded about the theme of the ongoing Synod of Bishops, “For a synodal Church: Communion, Participation, Mission”, to encourage the members of the Commission and the Advisory Group to cultivate a spirit of communion in addition to listening and speaking out, and to promote as far as possible dialogues with the society outside future meetings, in order to truly facilitate communication and co-operation between Catholic schools in Macao and the society.
During the banquet, the Office Director of the C.D.E.C. Mr. Stephen Chan Teng Fong also delivered a presentation on the attainments of the Second Term of the Commission, introducing the many tasks that the Commission has initiated and accomplished in the past three years under the three major functions of education administration, education development and professional development of teachers. He then expressed his anticipation that everyone from the Commission and the Advisory Group can work closely together in the coming three years of this term, to push forward further development of the educational affairs of the Diocese.
